The Hidden Good

Written by Alexis Lion.

The Hidden Good is a social concept founded by Leon Heng and Rovik Jeremiah in 2013 to uncover the kindness and positivity of Singaporeans in the country. The organization consists of a team of independent citizen journalists who go undercover to identify the unnoticed goodness amongst the locals. Through a combination of comedy, pastiche, and parodies from local TV programs The Noose and Talking Point, they created a call-to-action plan for Singaporeans to believe in the good of our society.

They have two series of videos currently – “ON:” and “The Hood Factory”. The former discusses current affairs undertaken by Singaporeans through a series of street interviews, online videos, and social media comments; whereas the latter uses the hidden camera style to observe acts of kindness by Singaporeans in various staged situations, similar to Just for Laughs: Gags, but with a positive and inspiring spin.

This social start-up is a fresh change from the usual negative and cynical portrayal of fellow Singaporeans. I applaud them for their courage and creativity to challenge the current mind-sets of most locals. It reinforces the belief that good-hearted Singaporeans do exist and it is a respite from our emerging misanthropic condition.
