Ivory Destruction

#‎ElephantVoices‬ has been working with Alex Hofford and other people in Hong Kong toward the destruction of the island's ivory stockpile and a closure of all ‪#‎ivory‬ trade in this administrative region of China. (Read some reflections from visit in June last year on http://tinyurl.com/n3388ky) One goal has been realised as Hong Kong incinerated the first instalment of its 33 ton pile of illegal ivory on Thursday.

These are sad photos - all that ivory should still be on elephants in the wild. Our conviction is that such destruction provides protection to Africa's remaining elephants.

The alternative - selling the ivory - would only stimulate further death-bringing demand.

Thanks to Alex for the images.
