Kenya: Botswana to Help Fight Poaching

THE government of Botswana will help Kenya fight poaching, High Commissioner John Moreti has said.

He said the two countries share a common interest in wildlife heritage and should fight poaching together.

"It is cruel to destroy nature's gifts. We are very concerned over increased poaching activities in the country," Moreti said. He was speaking in Nyeri town during a courtesy call on Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathai. Moreti said his country is committed to fighting poachers to ensure wildlife, which is Africa's heritage, does not become extinct.

He said although Kenya and Botswana host a high number of elephants and rhinos, the animals are under threat of extinction. The two leaders discussed the agricultural sector.

They expressed interest in having a capacity exchange forum on agriculture. Moreti said the two states will soon establish a bilateral trade in coffee and tea. He said Botswana is ready to work with the Nyeri county government to enhance economic development.
